I’ve seen almost all the ways a shirt can be printed on but Capcom has a new and very creative idea that I’m really impressed with. Not because of the design necessarily, not saying it’s bad, it’s actually really good but the concept behind it is what makes it genius. This shirt is for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles that are passed out at Comic Con. I can totally see the fans of this video game walking around pretending to be a zombie.

Do you have a logo you just love? Love the style, color and layout? Well, do you love it so much to get it tattooed on you? Thought so, neither would I but these loyal brand followers did and talk about insane. As much as I like some of theses items people got tattooed like Coca-Cola and M&M’s I won’t even put a patch of their logo on a jacket, let alone my own skin. But I do have a fav among them. The NY Yankees one is the least weird (if you can say that). Reason being that it has the skyline of New York, which can also be love for the city they grew up in. Not saying it’s nicely done but out of the rest this doesn’t make me cringe as much. The worst in my book is the Ikea tat. Uhh, why? Are you so into cheap Swiss furniture that you have to let people know that your apartment is most likely filled with items named Ektorp or Poäng (real names by the way). Take a look and enjoy the laugh you’ll get out these.

A 50-year anniversary celebration in our Valley is a special occurrence, and National Semiconductor turned to us for employee gift suggestions.  This soft blue plaid picnic blanket, nylon-backed for absorbing ground moisture, was so popular that a reorder ensued.

Smashing Magazine came out with the top 10 mistakes to stay away from when you’re getting a logo made. I especially agree with number 1, designed by an amateur, because if you avoid this you’re most likely not going to deal with numbers 2-10. I know you want to save money or give somebody you know a shot at creating your logo but more times than none you’re going to get that puppy redesigned in about 2 years. Meaning, more money to fix something you could have had done right in the beginning. Hint: Just call us at Westminster and we’ll help you out with that.

Photography has been something I’ve gained more appreciation for as I get older and in high school when I had the option between a painting class and a photography class I would always pick painting. Until my senior year I decided to take a chance and so something new, which if you haven’t guessed it was photography. Since then I’ve been more aware of having a camera on me at all times and also have a cute collection of vintage cameras. But when I saw these amazing photos I had a physical reaction to them and that’s when I know I REALLY like something.

I’ve noticed this “less is more” approach to design that has sprung up in stores. I don’t know about you but while some of those designs do look really good I can’t help but love that old school look. You know, like the look of beauty product s from the 20’s with the different typefaces and decorative flourishes and minimal use of illustration. This look to me is much denser compared to the generic look some designs are falling in (even if they try not to). Besides it looking better, I know as a designer that making this happen takes much more time and can’t help but feel some companies are getting cheated out of a well thought out design because of a recent trend that has taken over. Just to give you an idea of what I mean this is just a taste of what I’m talking about.
