Web trackers? What are they exactly? Well, these help you track the visitors of your site and show you where they go and how long they stay. It shows what time during the day you have the heaviest visits, on what button people click on most and what page they most likely to enter your site. Basically, anything you need to know and more. We use Google Analytics here at Westminster but I’m sure the others are just as good.

1. Compete
2. Google Analytics
3. Alexa
4. Website Grader
5. Quant Cast

Give one a try and I’m sure you’ll never look at web design the same way. I know I don’t.

What I learned: No matter how pretty or awesome your site looks it still needs to function right. Web trackers let you know if people are getting what they need and if your site is as successful as you want it to be.

Hey all Westminster blog readers! Today is the official introduction of “Daily Dose”. Basically it’s a blog entry about what I, Debra Valdez, learned each day.  It can be about anything from design, typography and web to basic things like not sticking your fork in the electrical plug (hopefully you knew that already). Just so you have a basic understanding of who I am and what I do here you can find more at http://www.westminsterpromotions.com/index.php?/about/people/debra_valdez/

New York Philharmonic Logo - Italics in a logo? Good or Bad?

I personally love seeing redesigned logos and comparing them to their old look. But when I saw the new logo for the New York Philharmonic for the first time I was initially shocked. Why? Because of the all capped, italic look.  What!? Who!? Why italic!?  After a few seconds it actually grew on me. It was different and the slanted letters to me represent the music and its powerfulness. I also like the introduction of gray to split up the words. Later I found out the red line is for the baton the instructor uses, which was not obvious and reminded me of a clock. The logo gets a definite boost when it’s added onto other applications like the stationery, programs and folder where execution is inventive and bold. If you want to know more go to http://blog.pentagram.com/2009/01/new-work-new-york-philharmonic.php\

Project Team: Paula Scher, partner-in-charge; Lenny Naar and Drea Zlanabitnig, designers.
What I learned: You can use italics in a logo if you can make a kick ass identity to follow it.

...and beyond!

Our longtime customer wanted a “gift that says WOW”  for their current and prospective accounts, with which to announce/promote major updates to their product line.  They were pleased with the proposal of a classic black digital frame, which we tastefully decorated with two product names in black on the clear bottom section.

The 128MB frame, for table or wall mount,  accommodated their high resolution images which were uploaded by us and displayed on a bright LED 7” screen.  The frame was preset on auto slide show for immediate viewing when recipient pushed ON.

We suggested and produced a multi-colored clear label to be affixed to the front of the gift box for added appeal and messaging.
